Our First Full Day
We started out the day eating breakfast in the hotel before hurrying to catch a ride on the tube to the London Euston station, where we proceeded to get on a train to Bletchley. We were able to tour Bletchley Park, where secret UK codebreakers figured out the Nazi's Enigma cipher they used to communicate to one another. It's also the birthplace of modern computing, and so we visited the National Museum of Computing as well. Our tour at this museum was all about the Colossus machine, which was used to crack an even more complex Nazi cipher, the Lorenz. After seeing the Colossus, we were fortunate enough to see a real Enigma machine in action. We were taught how it works, and then we even got to use it ourselves. After the Enigma demonstration, we headed back to London, where a group of us went to a pub to watch a Chelsea-Arsenal soccer game alongside some raucous UK soccer fans.
