Project at Cardiff Met

01/18/2018 (Late post)

Last Thursday was the last day we spent wrapping up our projects at Cardiff Metropolitan. I just wanted to use this post to look back on the overall experience of working on this project. I used this assignment as another opportunity to read through and interpret a large and built-out codebase. We were using an engine developed by the game development professor at the university used to implement a basic top down racer game. I wanted to change up the rendering of our game, which involved some pretty significant changes to the game engine itself. Even with several months of experience developing with JavaScript, I still found it quite tricky to navigate through the code. In the end, I managed to get a successful split-screen view working in time for the final presentations. While I wanted to also complete a "Mode 7" style 3D view for our game, the feature didn't get finished in time. Overall, I found the project to be a very constructive learning experience.
