GAMEDAY!!! (Kind of)
Saturday Jan 13th
For today I had planned on going to Cardiff City FC v
Sunderland football match and then the Cardiff Blues v Toulouse rugby match.
For the first fame both are playing in the English Championship League, which
is the second-tier league. Cardiff City is currently in third place and
Sunderland is in last place, so Cardiff City could be in the Premier league
next season if they keep playing well and Sunderland would be relegated to the
third-tier of English football. The game started off rather slow, Cardiff had a
few chances in the first half to score but could not capitalize, but they were
in control for most of the half. The second half on the other hand was very
exciting, Cardiff started strong and had control of the ball without really
giving up too much ground to Sunderland. Cardiff scored their first goal in the
46th minute on a header set up by a pass from a corner kick. Then 3
minutes later a Sunderland player is shown a red card, I couldn’t see the play
clearly, so I have no idea what he did, but the Sunderland fans and players
were clearly upset by the call. In the 55th minute Cardiff City
scored its second goal set up by a fast break. In the 80th minute
Cardiff set up a free kick and had it blocked by the wall, but we got the
deflection and scored the third goal. At this point we figured the excitement
of the game would be done and we’d seen all that would happen. But Sunderland
wasn’t done they kept pressing but still couldn’t find the back of the net. In
the 4th minute of stoppage time we got another goal, one of the
players that Cardiff had subbed in earlier scored and put Cardiff up 4-0 and
really finish the game.
The group going to the rugby match was a little larger,
after the soccer match all of us met at the hostel and walked to the rugby
stadium which is right across the river from our hostel. We got there an hour
early but no one was there which we thought was odd. Someone decided to look at
their ticket and discovered that the game was on the next night….
