Final Thoughts

Hey, it's Elisha! Sunday, the day I had to blog, was yet again another uneventful day for me t share about. We were going to visit the largest castle in the UK but prices turned out to be much more expensive than anticipated and it was pouring rain. Instead, we all hung around the hostel and played games. It’s was pretty relaxing.

Stonehenge - last day in Cardiff!

So for my final blog, I’d like to share some thoughts I’ve had on subtle differences between the UK and the US. Hopefully you find these interesting! I definitely did.

-calling the restroom the toilets sounds much more blunt.
-how do the double decker buses not tip over??
-driving on the left side of the road seems wrong and it makes me nauseous.
-restaurant seating is much closer together than American seating. You really get to know your neighbors! Or just eaves-drop on them.
-People can leave school at 16 and start a career. At 16 I thought teasing my hair between class periods was the most important part of the day.
-Wow, everyone is so fashionable. Good thing my housemates let me raid their closets before I left.
-In London and Cardiff, you walk EVERYWHERE. It is amazing! We probably walk 5-10 miles a day.
-Water fountains don’t seem to exist. I think we’ve found 2 the entire trip.
-There’s no sales tax, so what you see on the price is what you pay! It’s a nice feeling.
-They seem to pay employees in the food service industry properly so tipping is not much of a thing.
-everything is so much older, the culture is so rich with the old and a the new.
-it’s a parking lot. Not a car park. Haha.
-I’m going to miss The Tube, that type of transportation should exist in every city!
-Cardiff is similar to Spokane in the atmosphere it provides. Maybe Spokane will be like Cardiff in the next 10 years.
-why can’t we have a castle in the center of Whitworth’s campus?

I’m sure everyone else noticed other things but you’ll just have to bug them about what they thought.

Well, what a great experience it has been exploring London, Cardiff and the culture of the UK. Thanks so much to Pete and Anne for making this experience one to remember! I hope to hear about future students going on an expedition like this one. Great job!
