Cardiff is Wonderful

So we got to Cardiff yesterday afternoon, and we could immediately feel the more laid-back nature of the area. At the train station, one woman saw our helpless look and quickly asked to help us find our way.

Then we got to our hostel, called NosDa, which means "good night" in Welsh. Claire was at the reception desk and was very friendly, introducing us all to the rules of the hostel and joking with Anne. NosDa is right across the river from the Millenium Stadium where the Wales National Rugby team and the Wales National Football team play. Cardiff Castle and National Museum Cardiff are also easy walking distance, so we'll certainly find time to visit those sites. The hostel has a bar attached to it with a pool table, and it appeared there were some regulars in there already. It was a great atmosphere, and the food and beer were quite good. The rooms here are quite nice, complete with bathroom and shower.

Today was our first day at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Our main contact, Jason Williams, gave us a good tour of their very nice building, pointing out the cafe, labs, and teaching spaces. It gave us many great ideas for when we renovate Eric Johnston.

We also started our workshop with Paul Angel today. We will be working with his skeleton Javascript game engine to build games. We broke into teams today, and I get to work with Colleen and Bao (Bao is our team lead). I think we've settled on building a mini-golf game, so stay tuned for links to that and other games.

One side note: While in London, I saw this beautiful McLaren. I think I've only seen them in video games before, so this was spectacular. But if you look carefully, you might see that the poor soul has a parking ticket. Shame.
